Blacklist Creativity Experiment Writing Process

The Writer’s Blacklist.

The Blacklist is a NBC tv show starring James Spader as ‘Red’ Reddington, a criminal mastermind who surrenders himself to the FBI in return for their help in taking down the most notorious criminals on their most wanted list.

But what if you had your own Blacklist?

Your own top twenty, top fifty, or top two hundred, things you want to write about or get in a novel?

Larry Cohen originally pitched the idea of making a movie which only takes place in a phone booth to the great director Alfred Hitchcock in the sixties. They couldn’t make it work. Cohen persisted with the idea and the movie Phone Booth was eventually released in 2003.

Start your Blacklist.

It might be a novel title, or a character name, or a plot situation as in the Phone Booth.

Perhaps the serial killer your detective is hunting is his wife?

Perhaps you want to write the real life version of Scooby-Doo?

Perhaps each chapter heading is a song title from your favourite band?

Whatever it is, start your Blacklist today.
